I am so glad I spent the $$ and picked up RoF, even though I was dedicated to beating FFXIII before I even put the disc into the X360.
First off (and more of a side-note), RoF has one of the best opening scenes I've ever seen. But I'm sure the Big Screen and Surround Sound added to the hard-core, dramatic, action-packed opening. (Note: I am speaking of the scene that takes place before hitting the 'start' button. There is also a second opening scene if you wait and do not press 'start' after watching the first...not as action-oriented, but gives some more back story)
I'm only in Chapter 2 so far...and I already think it is far better than the last game I just beat (cough, cough...)
An amazing battle system...with a bit of a learning curve...that truly uses every strategic cell in your brain. And culminates in a very satisfying feeling after winning even the easiest of battles. And graphically...um, wow...the battle sequences are just pretty to watch, and I even find myself setting up certain "hero moves" just so I can see the action played out on-screen.
But the fun doesn't end there. Part of the game-play that came as a complete surprise to me (because I refused to read, watch, or have anything to do with RoF after I bought my copy so I could go in unbiased) is the use of "Energy Hexes" on the main map in which you have to earn, win, or find different colored/sized hexes that you have to use upon the map to open up new areas; sometimes just to be able to make it to the next story mission.
To conclude...I'm still very early in the game, but I already feel I am going to enjoy this one a lot more than the SE game I just finished. Not that FFXIII was a bad game...I actually really liked it...but I can tell already RoF should be a GOTY contender!
